Reasi, Samba, Jammu, & Rajouri dists set for poll battle tomorrow
Over 17.80 lakh voters to decide fate of 22 candidates

JAMMU, APR24: In the upcoming second phase of LokSabha polls on April 26, the fate of 22 candidates vying for representation in the 5-Jammu Parliamentary Constituency will be determined by over 17.80 lakh voters. The Jammu parliamentary constituency spans across 18 Assembly segments, encompassing Reasi, Samba, Jammu, and Rajouri districts.
According to data provided by the office of the Returning Officer for 5-Jammu Parliamentary Constituency, the constituency boasts 17,80,835 registered voters, comprising 9,21,095 males, 8,59,712 females, and 28 transgender electors. Among them, 37,822 are service voters, with 37,025 being male and 797 female.
To facilitate the electoral process, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has established 2416 polling stations across the constituency. This includes 18 Green Polling Stations, 46 Pink Polling Stations, and 18 PwD manned polling stations, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in the voting process.
Across the districts within the constituency, Reasi, Samba, Jammu, and Rajouri, the voter distribution varies.
Reasi district, with three Assembly Constituencies, boasts 2,52,62 voters, including 12,33,23 males, 11,19,36 females, and three transgender voters. Samba district, comprising three Assembly Constituencies, holds 2,59,198 voters, with 1,32,861 males, 1,26,336 females, and one transgender voter.
Jammu district, comprising 11 Assembly Constituencies, houses 11,89,389 electors, with 6,13,988 males, 5,75,378 females, and 23 transgender voters. Rajouri district, with only Kalakote-Sunderbani Assembly Constituency falling in Jammu PC, accounts for 96,986 voters, including 50,923 men and 46,062 women, along with one transgender voter.
Notably, the R S Pura-Jammu South Assembly Constituency holds the highest number of voters, totaling 1,24,744, while the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Assembly segment of Reasi district holds the lowest number at 55,737 voters.
The voting will take place from 7.00 am to 6.00 pm and before that there will be mock poll in the polling stations in presence of the polling agents. Also, the voting will continue even after 6.00 pm, if voter’s queue is still there in the Polling Station premises to utilize their right to vote. Every polling station will be provided with Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) like drinking water, electricity, toilet, ramp, furniture, verandahor shed besides wheel chairs will also be provided to the needy. The ballot unit will also have a list of contesting candidates in brail script. Where ever required, there will be separate queues for senior citizens and specially abled persons facilitating them with early polling. Additionally, there will be a voter help desk, manned by the concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO).
With polling stations strategically set up across the constituencies, including those catering to vulnerable and critical areas, the electoral process aims for efficiency and transparency in the democratic exercise.
