Budgam, Sep 04: The work on the new building for Boys High School in Pethi-Kanihama village of central Kashmir’s Budgam district is incomplete despite the government having provided funds for construction.
The school still functions from the old building where proper facilities are not available for students.
Local residents and students told Rising Kashmir that to improve education in the village; the government approved a new building for the school in the financial year 2014-2015 under the RMSA Scheme. The Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) is a centrally-sponsored scheme of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, for the development of secondary education in public schools throughout India.
An estimated cost of Rs 94.05 lakh was released for the construction of the new school building, said Imtiyaz Alam, the Sarpanch of the village. He said the construction work on the new school building began in the area five years ago.
He said that most of the work on the new school building has been completed, and there is a need for mirrors, electricity, paint and water supply.
The locals have requested the Lieutenant Governor, Project Director Samagra Shiksha J&K and Deputy Commissioner Budgam to look into the matter and make the school functional for students.
An official from the Chief Education Office in Budgam said the building has not yet been handed over to the School Education Department.
