Khelo India Wushu Women’s League starts in Sgr

Srinagar, Nov 4: The day-four-long Khelo India Wushu Women’s League-2022 kick-started on Friday at Shere-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex Srinagar. The league will be held from November 4 to 7.
Around 500 women athletes from eight states and Union Territories – Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Ladakh, Uttrakhand, Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir (North Zone) – are participating in this mega event. 
Vice Chairperson Jammu and Kashmir Khadi and Village Industries Board (J&K KVIB) Dr. Hina Shafi Bhat, who was the chief guest on the occasion, inaugurated the league. 
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Hina said such initiatives by the government will not only provide jobs to the athletes under sports quota, but also shape Naya (new) Jammu and Kashmir by eradicating the evils of society.   
On the occasion, Kuldeep Handoo, a Dronacharya Awardee, thanked the Ministry Youth Affairs & Sports, Sports Authority of India and Wushu Association of India for the allotment of Zonal Level Khelo India Wushu Women’s League to J&K. He extended gratitude to J&K Government and LG Manoj Sinha for making the sports priority in J&K, especially among women under his leadership.
Deputy Director Sports Authority of India (SAI) Nadeem Ahmad Incharge J&K, Krishan Kumar representative SAI, Suhel Ahmad CEO Wushu Federation of India, Kuldeep Handoo Dronacharya Awardee, P.N Azad, Bhavneet General Secretary Wushu Association J&K, Billiques Mir Director Water Sports J&K Sports Council were dignitaries present on the opening ceremony of league.
“Khelo India Wushu Women’s Zonal League commencing from J&K will be held in Manipur, Jharkhand, Calcutta, Kerala,” he said. “After the culmination of the zonal level Khelo India Women’s League, National Level Khelo India Women’s league will be held in Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior,” he said, adding that Rs 40 lakh will be awarded to the winners.
The league is being organized by Wushu Association of India in collaboration with Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), Sports Authority of India (SAI).
