Pulwama, Aug 23: Hundreds of Kashmiri Pandits on Friday gathered at Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district to participate in the annual Nowdal Teerath Yatra.
This significant religious event, traditionally held at the conclusion of the Shri Amarnath Yatra, drew devotees from across the country.
Participants, including both non-migrant and migrant Kashmiri Pandits, flocked to Nowdal village to take part in the rituals.
The devotees engaged in Bhajans, Pooja, and the Tarpan ceremony, where they offered their belongings, such as walking sticks, shoes, and clothes, in a symbolic act of devotion.
A Hawan (sacred fire) was also conducted to invoke blessings.
The festival was marked by a profound display of communal harmony, with members of the local Muslim community actively participating .
The local administration, along with the Muslim community, ensured that the devotees had access to essential amenities like drinking water and other basic facilities.
Dr. Ramesh Bhat, President of Temples and Shrines, highlighted the religious and historical significance of the Nowdal Teerath Yatra.
He explained that the yatra is mentioned in ancient Hindu scriptures and Kashmiri manuscripts as the site of Patali Ganga, a sacred place where pilgrims of the Shri Amarnath Yatra traditionally immerse their belongings, especially walking sticks and slippers.
Dr. Bhat also noted that this centuries-old tradition has consistently been a testament to communal harmony, with the local Muslim community playing a vital role in supporting the three-day festival.
Dr Bhat said that last year around 2000 devotees paid their obeisance at Nowdal Teerth and this year it may touch up to 5000.
The event continues to serve as a powerful reminder of the enduring bonds between different communities in Kashmir.
