Srinagar, Dec 17: Jammu and Kashmir postal department organized the “Chillai Kallan Cricket Match” at Amar Singh College ground on a T-20 pattern between Shining Srinagar Stars and Jovial Jammu team in which Jammu Jovial lifted the golden cup by winning by five wickets.
The match was organized by the postal department as a welfare measure for the staff members. The Shining Srinagar Stars team had players from Srinagar and Baramulla while the Jovial Jammu team comprised players from Jammu, Udhampur and Rajouri divisions.
The Shining Srinagar Stars won the toss and decided to bat. They scored 130 runs in 20 overs. The score was well chased by Jovial Jammu in 19.1 overs after losing only five wickets. Sanjay Kumar from Jovial Jammu was declared Man of the Match for his all-round performance of scoring 55 runs and also claiming two wickets.
The match started in presence of Ms Ravinder Kaur, Physical Instructor, Amar Singh College. Col Vinod Kumar, PMG Jammu entered the ground as a ceremonial opening batsman and scored 21 runs. Tahir added 43 runs for the Shining Srinagar team while Faisal contributed 29 runs. Rahul performed the role of a wicketkeeper for Jovial Jammu and Tajamul did the same for Shining Srinagar.
Prof Bashir Ahmad Rather, Principal Amar Singh College, the guest of honor, presented the trophies and mementos to the players of both teams during the closing ceremony. Col Vinod Kumar, PMG, appreciated both teams for showing sportsmanship, team spirit and a high sense of friendship during both innings. He informed that the officials were feeling a little low as long duration COVID did not allow big social mixing and generally people remained captive in four walls of residences.
Col Vinod said that officials of the Postal department have done sincere services by performing the duties with zeal & zest and the administration is always taking care of the health & hygiene and welfare of the staff. He informed that a fitness center is running in Srinagar and Jammu to keep officials healthy and fit.
“This match is a historical beginning friendly match that is paving ways to channelize the inherent energy of officials in the right direction. Such events provide a chance to give promotion for various schemes of India Post and other social welfare programs like spreading awareness against drug addiction etc,” Col Vinod said, adding, “In the era of the internet and online gaming, physical sports/games show ways to divert the minds of the young generation from getting an addiction to the internet or online games,”
He said that J&K Postal department is looking forward to playing matches with other departmental teams so that younger players of the Department of Posts get an opportunity to prove their talent viz a viz a more cordial relationship is created among the different governmental organizations.
Prof Bashir Ahmad Rather, Principal Amar Singh College, lauded the Department of Posts for their role in society through postal connectivity and hoped that a cricket match will be played between Amar Singh College and the Department of Posts so that college students get attached to the Department of Posts.
