Srinagar, June 4, 2023 – The Annual General Meeting of the Ice Hockey Association of Jammu and Kashmir (IHAJK) took place at Hotel Green Acre in Srinagar on June 4th. The main highlight of the event was the election of new office bearers and the executive committee for the association.
Under the watchful eye of Returning Officer Mir Asrar Ahmad, a Senior Advocate from the J&K High Court, the election proceedings were conducted smoothly. The Returning Officer, responsible for the IHAJK Elections 2023-2027, announced the newly elected managing body, which received unanimous support from the members present. The nominations for each post were in accordance with the Constitution of the Ice Hockey Association of J&K and the guidelines set by the J&K Sports Council and the Ice Hockey Association of India.

During the AGM, in-depth discussions were held on the promotion of ice hockey in Jammu and Kashmir. The agenda included plans to establish grassroot-level initiatives such as district championships and the J&K UT Ice Hockey championship. The association also emphasized the importance of training and developmental programs for all age groups, along with coaching camps leading up to the IHAI National Ice Hockey Championships for the year 2023-24. The newly elected committee further explored the possibility of hosting the Federation Cup Senior Ice Hockey championship, subject to confirmation by the Ice Hockey Association of India.
Addressing the occasion, Ravinder Pal Singh, President of the Ice Hockey Association of J&K, urged the newly elected committee to work diligently and ensure maximum participation of young enthusiasts in the sport. He highlighted the current status of ice hockey and emphasized the need to conduct “Learn to Play” programs.
Gurpreet Singh Bakshi, Acting President of the Ice Hockey Association of India, and Harjinder Singh, General Secretary of the Ice Hockey Association of India, attended the AGM as observers from the national governing body. They commended the achievements of the Ice Hockey Association of India and pledged their full support in promoting the sport in every corner of the country, especially in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
Concluding the event, Harjinder Singh expressed hope that the newly elected managing committee of J&K UT would enhance the sport’s development, leading the J&K Ice Hockey team to become one of the top teams in India.
The AGM concluded with a vote of thanks extended to the observers from the national body by Umer Akbar, General Secretary of the Ice Hockey Association of J&K.
