Srinagar, Dec 04: The Jammu and Kashmir generated 16,282 million units of renewable energy during the financial year 2023-24.
The information was shared by the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, in Lok Sabha while replying to a query on state-wise renewable energy production.
He said the renewable energy production in J&K is predominantly from small and large hydro projects, contributing significantly to the energy capacity of J&K. “Out of the total, small hydro projects produced 408.69 million units, while large hydro projects contributed 15,874.24 million units,” he said.
The Union Minister said that renewable energy generation in J&K is part of India’s larger commitment to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030. “It includes promoting solar, wind, and hydroelectric projects across the country,” he said.
He also said that efforts are being made to enhance transmission infrastructure for renewable energy evacuation. “Under the Green Energy Corridor scheme, the government is setting up transmission systems for projects, including the 13 GW renewable energy project in Ladakh,” he added.
He further said that the central government is also providing a 40% grant for the development of transmission infrastructure under the scheme ro ensure better grid integration of renewable energy projects.
He said the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is actively encouraging the adoption of clean energy through various policies, such as waiving inter-state transmission charges for solar and wind energy projects and supporting the development of renewable energy parks.
