JAMMU, Sept 14: The upcoming Assembly election in Jammu & Kashmir will be a contest between three dynastic parties—National Conference (NC), Congress (Cong), and People’s Democratic Party (PDP)—and the youth of J&K, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today, addressing a massive rally at the Sports Stadium in Doda.
Modi became the first Prime Minister in over 42 years to visit Doda ahead of Assembly elections which are being held post abrogation in the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
In his 45-minute speech, Modi launched a sharp attack on these three parties, accusing them of wanting to restore Article 370 and push J&K back into an era of unrest.
“These dynastic parties want to return J&K to a time where shops would be shut, schools burned, hartals held, and stone pelting resumed. Development would once again be stalled,” Modi said to the huge crowd. “What these three dynastic parties did in Kashmir over the past decades is a sin. What the BJP has done in the last ten years in J&K is a dream come true.”
“The stones that were earlier raised to attack the police and army are now being used to create the new Jammu and Kashmir,” PM Modi said, adding that the changes over the last decade is no less than a dream. He said terror in the region is ‘breathing its last’ and pledged that the BJP would make J&K terror-free and a “heaven for tourists.”
Modi accused NC, Cong, and PDP of promoting separatism and corruption, and depriving the common people of basic facilities. “These parties only care for their own children, not for the children of others,” he stated. The dynastic politics of these parties, he said, has destroyed the future of thousands of talented youth in J&K.
“This time’s assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir is between three families and the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. One family belongs to Congress, one family belongs to National Conference, one family belongs to PDP,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the restoration of Article 370, as promised by these three parties, would once again deprive women of J&K of their rights, making them “foreigners in their own land.” He also warned that the reservations granted to Paharis, Gujjars, OBCs, and STs by the BJP government would be taken away under their rule. “They want to snatch away the rights that BJP has given to Valmikis and the Gorkha Samaj,” Modi added.
“There will be hartals and stone pelting if their manifesto is implemented. People who got voting rights will be snatched, rights of my mothers and sisters will be snatched, schools will be set on fire,” PM Modi said.
Lashing out at Congress, Modi called it the “most dishonest and disloyal party of India,” and recalled a recent statement by a Congress leader, who said that with 20 more seats, Modi would have been jailed. “I ask them, do they want to form a government just to send people to jails?” he questioned. “We run the government for the welfare of the people, for development, and to curb corruption—not for sending people to jail.”
Meanwhile, the PM assured the crowd that only the BJP could restore statehood to J&K. He also highlighted the BJP’s promise to ensure the safe return of Kashmiri Pandits under the Tika Lal Taploo Scheme and announced the party’s commitment to issuing a white paper on justice for terror victims.
Modi emphasised that the upcoming election would decide the future of J&K. “The dynastic parties’ manifestos promise the return of the bad old days of separatism and terrorism, the rollback of reservations, and the restoration of Article 370,” he said. In contrast, he described the BJP’s Sankalp Patra as a document that promises peace, prosperity, and development for the region.
He criticised the Abdullahs, Muftis, and Gandhis for ruining J&K through family rule, which he claimed destroyed the democratic process. “They couldn’t even hold Panchayat polls since 2000. It was the BJP that ensured democracy reached the grassroots level, holding the first-ever Block Development Council and District Development Council elections. The youth have come forward as a result.”
Referring to Shagun Parihar, the BJP candidate from Kishtwar, Modi described her as not just a candidate but a symbol of the party’s firm resolve to wipe out terrorism from the region. He highlighted the personal sacrifices Parihar has endured, as both her father and uncle were killed by terrorists. “Shagun’s candidacy represents our fight against terrorism,” he said.
“Shagun is sitting on the dias whose father and uncle were killed by terrorists. The BJP gave ticket to this daughter, a terror victim. She is not only a candidate but is a living picture of our determination to root out terrorism (from Jammu and Kashmir),” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister further spoke of his vision for J&K as a global film destination and a paradise for tourists. He announced that soon there would be a direct train from Delhi to Srinagar, underscoring the BJP’s commitment to development in the region.
“Now, the choice before the people of J&K is clear: either the return to the days of violence, corruption, and dynastic politics under NC, Cong, and PDP, or a future of peace, development, and empowerment under the BJP,” Modi concluded.
