Srinagar, Jan 25: The J&K Drug Control Department has confiscated a parcel at the International Airport Srinagar, containing Tepentadol—a prescription opioid pain medication and the estimated street value of the seized substance is Rs 35,000.
Nighat Shah, Deputy Drugs Controller, Drug and Food Control Organization Kashmir said that on January 24 they received information inside the Srinagar Airport regarding a suspicious parcel following which a team of officials was sent to investigate the matter.
“Upon reaching the Cargo Building (in Airport), the team promptly seized the parcel. Upon inspection, the parcel was found to contain Tepentadol, a prescription opioid pain medication, with an estimated street value of Rs 35,000. This seizure is a significant step in curbing the illegal trafficking of controlled substances in Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.
Jabeen appreciated the prompt action and cooperation of the Sales Tax Officer and the J&K Police for facilitating the successful seizure. She emphasized the importance of inter-departmental collaboration in combating illegal drug trade and safeguarding public health.
She said that the Drug Department is committed to monitor any attempts to illegally transport or distribute controlled substances within the region.
“This operation serves as a strong deterrent to those involved in such activities and underscores the department’s unwavering commitment to protecting the well-being of the community,” she added.
