BJP’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ offers future roadmap for J&K
BJP’s policies have cut terrorism in J&K by 70%
Jammu, Sept 09: Former Union Minister and BJP star campaigner Anurag Thakur on Monday asserted that only the BJP can bring peace and development to Jammu and Kashmir, while accusing the National Conference-Congress (NC-Cong) alliance of causing destruction and suffering for the region’s people.
Addressing a press conference in Jammu, Thakur declared, “In J&K, BJP means ‘Rahat’ (relief) and NC-Cong means ‘Aafat’ (calamity) for the people.” He was joined by BJP National Spokesperson RP Singh, Media War Room Incharge Arun Gupta, BJP Chief Spokesperson Sunil Sethi, and party spokespersons Dr. Tahir Chowdhary and Dr. Pardeep Mahotra.
Thakur emphasized that the BJP is a guarantee of peace, prosperity, and development for Jammu and Kashmir, contrasting this with what he described as the devastation brought by the NC-Congress alliance. “More than 45,000 people have lost their lives in Jammu and Kashmir due to NC and Congress,” he claimed.
Criticizing the legacy of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Thakur said, “The country suffered for 70 years due to the blunders committed by Nehru,” and praised the current government for abrogating Article 370, which he credited with bringing peace and development to the region.
Thakur dismissed the NC-Congress alliance’s calls to restore Article 370, asserting, “Article 370 is history and will never come back.” He accused the alliance of attempting to push Jammu and Kashmir back towards terrorism and separatism, warning that the people of the region would reject these efforts in the upcoming elections.
He also took aim at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, demanding clarity on his stance regarding the hanging of Afzal Guru, the mastermind behind the Parliament attack.
Highlighting the BJP government’s investments in Jammu and Kashmir, Thakur mentioned the establishment of AIIMS, IIM, IIT, nursing colleges, and an extensive road network, facilitated by Rs 25,000 crore in development funds.
Thakur accused the NC-Congress of playing divisive politics, citing their alleged attempts to rename the revered Shankaracharya Temple as Takht-e-Suleman and Hari Parbat as Kohe Maran. “This shows that NC-Cong are trying to divide people and spread hatred,” he said.
He further claimed that there has been a 70% decline in terror-related activities due to the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating, “We freed J&K from the clutches of terrorism by abrogating Article 370.” Thakur also noted a significant increase in tourism to the region since the abrogation.
Later, Thakur praised the BJP’s 25-point ‘Sankalp Patra’ (manifesto) as people-friendly and a clear roadmap for the future development of Jammu and Kashmir, contrasting it with what he described as the lack of substance in the platforms of other parties.
