Handwara, July 10: Two days after Rajpora village in Handwara witnessed a devastating tragedy, authorities have provided the water supply, bringing relief to the grieving locals.
Despite the access to tap water, the village continues to mourn the loss of four members of a single family, who tragically died while fetching water from a nearby area.
The tragedy has sparked widespread outrage among the villagers, who believe that timely action by the authorities could have prevented the loss of lives. “If the same measures had been taken earlier, there would have been no tragedy,” said a local resident.
A young man, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed his frustration with the administration’s delayed response. “Why does the administration always wait for tragedies to respond to issues in Kashmir? Are they saying, ‘Give us blood, and we will give you water’?” he asked. His sentiments were echoed by several others in the village, who questioned whether the restoration of water facilities could ever heal the wounds of the families who lost their loved ones.
“If the water had been restored earlier in this village, we would not have lost three young people and an elderly man,” said another villager, expressing grief and anger.
In response to the incident, Additional Deputy Commissioner Handwara, Aziz Ahmed Rather, visited the village and expressed his condolences. He promised the villagers that the administration would expedite the setup of water pipes
