Srinagar, Sep 05: Cluster University Srinagar has scheduled the Semester 9 examination for its IG programmes only after the respective course coordinators confirmed completion of at least 80 percent of syllabus.
This was stated by the university spokesperson in response to the news report published in a local daily which quoted some students to question the datesheet issued by the university claiming that major portion of their syllabus was incomplete and they have not been able to attend the practical classes due to lack of necessary laboratory equipment at S.P. College, which is one of the main constituent colleges of the university.
“The university conducted a meeting of the Course Coordinators of IG/PG Programmes on 29th August to ascertain the factual position about the completion of the syllabi of IG/PG courses before notifying a date-sheet for conduct of examination of the students of 9th semester of these programmes. The Course Coordinators, through Principal S.P. College, have clearly informed that about 80 percent of the syllabus of IG/PG programmes running in S.P. College has been completed,” reads a university statement.
It further stated that the students who have resented the notification of the date sheet have not been attending the classes regularly. “As a result they have not been able to complete their course/ syllabi. So their allegations are baseless.”
In case of Information Technology department, the statement clarified that 50 percent of the syllabus has been completed and the department faculty has been advised to complete the syllabi within a fortnight. “The university notified the date-sheet from 17th September so that the students get more time and classes to complete the syllabi,” the statement added.
Regarding the allegation about funds being spent for upgradation of offices instead of procuring equipment for laboratories, the spokesperson said: “The university neither floats any tenders nor allocates funds for construction/renovation purposes to its constituent colleges. The funds/grants for such purposes are provided by the higher education department.”
