Ganderbal, Jan 28: Mehbooba Akthar, a farmer from Repora Lar in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has transformed her agricultural practices by adopting a hi-tech polygreen house.
Over the past decade, she cultivated several cereal crops but unfavourable climatic conditions, including chilly winters and untimely rains, hindered her dream until the introduction of the Kisan Sampark Abhiyan under HADP.
Actively participating in government programs, Mehbooba learned about Hi-tech Polygreen Houses designed for vegetable cultivation under extreme climatic conditions. With determination, she registered on the Kisan Sathi Portal under HADP securing approval and sanction to install a vertical expansion low-cost polygreen house on her patch of land at Repora Lar.
She said that Polygreen House has turned her long standing dream into reality, enabling her to grow various vegetables without climatic challenges. Her produce is ready for market even when others face delays, giving her a competitive advantage and yielding handsome profits. Not only does the Polygreen House facilitate vegetable cultivation, but Mehbooba has also ventured into raising seedlings, creating an additional income source and fostering self-employment.
Expressing gratitude to the Department of Agriculture, Mehbooba acknowledged their guidance and substantial subsidy support, making the installation of the Vertical Expansion Polygreen House affordable.
The transformative move has not only made her financially self-sufficient but has also elevated her status as a successful female farmer in Repora Lar, showcasing the potential of modernized agricultural schemes in empowering marginalized farmers.
