Ganderbal, Nov 25: Residents of Gagangeer in Gund area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have appealed to the health department to shift the local Sub-Centre to a government building near Jamia Masjid, adjacent to the Srinagar-Leh National Highway.
The locals expressed their concerns about the current location of the Sub-Centre, which is situated far from the main highway. They said that patients, especially those requiring urgent medical attention, have to walk a considerable distance to access the facility, causing unnecessary hardship.
Pointing out a practical solution, the residents highlighted the presence of a vacant government building near Jamia Masjid in Gagangeer. “Shifting the Sub-Centre to this building would make it more accessible, not just for the locals but also for the tourists visiting the area,” they said.
Given Gagangeer’s popularity as a tourist destination with year-round footfall, residents emphasized the need for a medical facility close to the highway. They noted that in cases of accidents or emergencies between Hung and Bardpardan Rezan, patients would not need to travel to distant healthcare facilities like PHC Kullan or Gund if the Sub-Centre is relocated to the suggested spot.
The locals have urged the health department, especially Health Minister Sakina Itoo, to address their genuine demand. “This move will ensure better healthcare accessibility for both residents and tourists,” they added.
