Baramulla, Jan 27: The residents of Maharajpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday expressed resentment against the dilapidated road and defunct drainage system in the area.
The locals said that the road connecting the locality and its adjacent areas with main road in Maharajpora B of Sopore, is in a dilapidated condition giving a tough time to locals and commuters.
“We have time and again requested the concerned department to macadamise the road but no one seems interested,” said Showkat Ahmad, a resident of Maharajpora, B Sopore.
He said that the vital road turns into a cesspool after rains making it cumbersome for office goers and children.
The locals said that the road is currently waterlogged as after recent snowfall and rains.
Mohammad Yaseen, a local, said that the problem is compounded by the defunct drainage system.
“The drainage is blocked due to garbage and polythene. The water remains stagnant at one place making it tough for the locals,” he added.
The locals also complained that the electricity wires in the area are in deteriorated condition.
“The deteriorated electric wires are posing a threat to the locals here. We appeal to the administration to look into the issue and change the electricity wires in the area,” they added.
The locals appealed to the Sopore administration to visit the area to take a firsthand account of the civic issues and get them redressed at an earliest.
