Srinagar, May 01: Congress Working Committee (CWC) member, Vikar Rasool Wani on Thursday chaired a significant meeting to discuss key issues concerning the party and the nation.
Wani, according to a statement issued here, expressed the party’s firm solidarity with the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, regarding his stance on the recent Pahalgam terror attack. He reiterated that the Congress fully supports the CWC resolution on the matter, emphasising the party’s unwavering commitment to national security and peace.
“The Congress Party stands resolutely behind Rahul Gandhi’s position on the Pahalgam incident. We are united in our resolve to confront such challenges with determination and patriotism,” Wani said.
He commended the leadership of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi in securing a “major political win”—the central government’s announcement of a nationwide caste census.
“It was due to their tireless efforts and persistent advocacy that this historic move was achieved. This is a significant milestone in our fight for social justice,” the Congress leader said. “The caste census was long overdue. Our leaders’ visionary approach and relentless pursuit of equality have turned this long-standing demand into a reality.”
Highlighting the Congress Party’s unwavering commitment to equality, Wani said the caste census would enable transparent and fair policymaking. “This initiative will lay the groundwork for a more just and inclusive society,” he remarked.
He added, “The BJP government’s reversal on the issue is a testament to the power of principled opposition. This proves that when we raise our voices collectively for justice, meaningful change follows.”
Wani announced the launch of the Samvidhan Abhiyan, an outreach campaign that will span across blocks and constituencies to promote constitutional values and democratic engagement. “Under the guidance of Kharge ji and Rahul ji, we are taking our message directly to the people,” he declared.
The meeting concluded with a strong message of unity, commitment, and renewed energy among party members to carry forward the Congress Party’s agenda of inclusive development and constitutional integrity, the statement said.
