Srinagar, July 10: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone Vidhi Kumar Birdi on Wednesday directed officers to prevent any potential threats and ensure the safety of pilgrims during the annual AmarnathYatra.
Addressing the crucial coordination and security meeting at Nunwan Base Camp in south Kashmir in midst of the ongoingAmarnathYatra, he emphasized on the importance of collective effort and coordination.
“There is a need to prevent any potential threats and ensure the safety of pilgrims,” IGP Kashmir said
He also sought details about frisking and X-ray scanning equipment, highlighting the necessity of thorough checks.
A police spokesman said that during the meeting, IGP Birdi directed all security agencies to work in close coordination to ensure a safe and secure AmarnathYatra.
Meanwhile, security forces and intelligence agencies shared their views and ideas. He also instructed District Police officers to design strategies based on these inputs. IGP Kashmir also requested updates from Panjtarni, Sheshnag, and Chandwari base camps.
The meeting was also attended by Yatra Officer, Sujit Kumar ; DIG SKR, Javid Ahmad Matoo ; SSP Anantnag, Dr. G V SundeepChakravarthy; as well as officers from CAPF, Security, Traffic, Army, NDRF, SDRF, MRT, Base camp directors, Security, Traffic and intelligence agencies.
The spokesman said the review meeting underscored the commitment of all stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of the AmarnathYatra Pilgrims.
On Tuesday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the Nunwan and Chandanwari base camps and reviewed the arrangements for the ongoingAmarnathYatra.
He also interacted with the service providers, doctors, sanitation workers, administrative and security officials and took appraisal of various services like lodging, langar, power and water supply, sanitation, health, traffic and security management, and other facilities to the pilgrims.
Meanwhile, the number of yatris paying obeisance at the Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir crossed the 2 lakh mark in 11 days this year.
Officials said that over 2.30 lakh yatris paid obeisance at the Amarnath cave shrine since the commencement of the yatra on June 29.
