Baramulla, Dec 30; After the season’s first snowfall in parts of Kashmir valley, the authorities in Baramulla on Friday said that only 4×4 vehicles and those having chains tied on tyres will only be allowed to ply on the road between Tangmarg and Gulmarg and vice-verse in view of the slippery road condition.

SDM Gulmarg in an official order said that the move has been taken to prevent accidents and long lasting traffic jams due to slippery roads.

“To prevent accidents and long lasting traffic jams due to slippery roads, which puts the commuters to much inconvenience, only 4×4 vehicles and those with anti-skid chains shall be allowed from Tangmarg to Gulmarg and vice versa till the thawing of the ice from the road,” an official order from SDM Gulmarg reads.

Meanwhile, after the first spell of snowfall in Tangmarg area of Baramulla dozens of vehicles enroute Gulmarg were stuck midway due to slippery roads. However, the teams of police assisted the stranded tourists and passengers towards the safer locations.

A police official in Tangmarg said that Gulmarg Tangmarg Road is slippery and few vehicles skidded off the road on Thursday evening but were assisted by teams of police.

“Even our ATV assistance teams (All Terrain Motorbikes) were also out to assist the stuck vehicles and tourists,” the police official said.
