Srinagar, Nov 22: The health department Kashmir has upgraded district and sub district hospitals in the valley to tackle emergencies especially heart attacks in winter months.
As per officials presently, there are eight district and 45 sub-district hospitals and in all these hospitals ER rooms have been upgraded in terms of equipment and other facilities.
“The infrastructure has been modified over the years. In district hospitals ER rooms have six beds while sub-district hospitals have four beds,” said Dr Mir Mushtaq, spokesperson Directorate of Health Services Kashmir.
He said similarly, x-rays, portable ultrasound machines, insulators, cardiac monitors, ECG machines have been created and emergency drugs have been made available in one room.
“We have also started a training program titled “Basic Emergency Course (BEC)” in collaboration with ICRC aimed to handle all the medical and surgical emergencies,” Mir said.
This year an international medical professional was invited from King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH&RC) Saudi Arabia who also imparted training.
Earlier, there was a problem of drugs in hospitals however with the several interventions costly drugs have been made available in the emergency rooms across the hospitals.
The spokesperson said the doctors and the paramedical staff are trained at the Regional Institute of Health and Family Welfare, Dhobivan in Baramulla District.
“The Institute is meant to serve as the apex institution for training of in-service doctors and paramedicals and of volunteers from various non-profit, non-governmental, organizations involved in health activities,” he said.
Mir highlighted that the Emergency Room Management Training marked the inaugural initiative by the Department of Health Services Kashmir aimed at equipping doctors with the skills necessary to handle diverse emergencies. The program also focused on imparting essential basic life support training to enhance their preparedness in critical situations.
Earlier, DHSK had framed multi-level committees to enhance functioning of emergency rooms and treatment protocols within the golden hour across hospitals.
The directorate has also given tasks to three senior doctors who would work as central-level coordinators and will coordinate meetings with various teams.
The directorate has also constituted district-level teams for Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Kupwara, Baramulla, Kulgam, Anantnag, Shopian and Pulwama.
