‘AI has reshaped education, teachers must reinvent the system’
Pays tribute to educationist & former President Dr. Radhakrishnan
Srinagar, Sept 05: Srinagar, Sept 5 — Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, while addressing the Teachers’ Day event in Srinagar today, paid tribute to the esteemed educationist and former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and felicitated outstanding teachers from across Jammu & Kashmir.
In a keynote that blended timeless values with contemporary urgency, the Lieutenant Governor called for education to champion sustainable development, equipping youth to respect finite natural resources and to act as guardians of ecosystems.
Emphasizing climate resilience and human-centric pedagogy, the LG urged schools to champion early-warning systems, hands‑on environmental education, and to leverage technology as a tool, not a substitute, for teachers’ wisdom and experience.
“The balance between economic growth and environmental protection is the key to prosperity and social equity. Our education system should underline the fact that natural resources are finite,” he said, noting the urgency of fostering ecosystem and biodiversity preservation. He also advocated for improved early-warning systems and community-driven, nature-based solutions for climate resilience.
He called upon education departments to integrate students with the Green Jammu & Kashmir Drive, enriching curriculum with hands-on field experience.
“We should revive the age-old tradition of living in harmony with nature. Climate change must be taught as a compulsory subject through classroom instruction and fieldwork.” The LG highlighted the irreplaceable role of teachers amid advancing technology: “Teaching is not merely about data, it’s about experience and wisdom. Technology should serve as a virtual assistant, strengthening the education system, not replacing the human touch it delivers.”
He urged educators to nurture life skills, creativity, critical thinking, and values like teamwork and perseverance: “Once the pursuit of excellence becomes deeply rooted in your mind, your greatest aspirations will become reality. Teach values and help students develop their unique personalities.”
The LG also announced enhancements to recognition programs, adding awards for innovation and research alongside existing honours, as he underscored the need to “dream big, believe in yourself, and remove the word ‘satisfaction’ from your vocabulary.”
He concluded by paying homage to those affected by recent natural calamities, reaffirming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have committed to holistic rehabilitation and rebuilding.
Attending were Shantmanu (Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education); Ram Niwas Sharma (Secretary, School Education); Dr. Ghulam Nabi Itoo and Dr. Naseem Javaid Chowdhary (Directors of School Education, Kashmir and Jammu); along with senior officials, educational heads, teachers, and students.
