Samba, Aug 06: Apni Party Provincial President, Jammu and former minister, S. Manjit Singh on Tuesday claimed that the people in the Jammu region feel that the government has victimised them with its “anti-people” policies, which have given rise to multiple issues, especially unemployment and underdevelopment.
The issues have further aggravated with the supremacy of the bureaucracy, which allegedly hampers projects that benefit the public, the former minister said while addressing a meeting at Vijaypur, where development and other issues were discussed in detail.
According to a press release, Singh demanded the restoration of the democratic system in Jammu and Kashmir with the holding of early assembly elections in the erstwhile state, while criticizing the bureaucracy for undermining the democratic system.
To discuss the issues confronted by the people, Manjit chaired a meeting with the people in Vijaypur, where the participants informed him about the underdevelopment of the town due to poor response from the concerned authorities. “The authorities have shown negligible response to the pleas of the general masses regarding the growing menace of scattered garbage, frequent traffic jams, poor cleanliness, water logging, choked drains, and uprooted lane tiles in the wards/markets of Vijaypur in the absence of proper checks from the authorities,” he added.
He also questioned the “unreasonable” construction of a divider in the middle of the road in Ramgarh, which is being objected to by businessmen and locals because it would cause traffic problems.
“The road is already congested, and if the divider is constructed in the middle of the narrow road, it would create a chaotic situation for commuters on the Ramgarh road,” he added.
The Apni Party leader said that anger is brewing among the people in Samba district because of the negligence of the authorities, who have completely failed to carry out developmental work.
Singh said, “The youth are frustrated with no scope for employment, and hence, their social and personal lives have been destabilized,” he said, urging for the holding of early assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir to address the growing concerns of the people of both regions.
Majit also demanded that a special recruitment drive should be held in the border villages along the International Border as well as the Line of Control to recruit unemployed youth into the Army, JKP and paramilitary forces.
