Jammu, Apr 21: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Vikar Rasool Wani on Sunday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lacks support and cadre in Kashmir, which is why it has refrained from fielding candidates in the valley’s three Lok Sabha seats.
“They (BJP) have lost people’s faith due to their anti-people policies and hollow slogans,” Wani said while addressing a press conference along with other senior leaders of the Congress at PCC headquarters here.
He said the BJP has no cadre and support in Kashmir Valley and has lost its ground in the Jammu region as well. “Congress will win both seats of Jammu region as people are fed up with hollow slogans of the BJP,” he said.
Wani said the Saffron party is not fielding any candidate on the three Lok Sabha seats in the Kashmir region because it is weak there.
The JKPCC chief said if the INDIA bloc comes to power at the Centre, it will protect culture, jobs and land, restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and hold assembly elections here.
“BJP has lost its support base and people’s faith in Jammu as it only gave lollipops to the public over the past 10 years of its rule. The people of J&K have made up their minds to teach this party a lesson in these Lok Sabha polls,” he said.
Thanking the people of Udhampur for turning out in large numbers despite heavy rains in the first phase of the elections, Wani said, “The people voted for change and we are confident of winning the seat.”
Wani promised, “We will also resume the bi-annual practice of Darbar move (under which the government used to function six months each in Jammu and Srinagar), throw away smart electricity meters and waive farmers loans besides implementing the guarantees of the party manifesto.”
