Samba, Aug 18: Apni Party Provincial President, Jammu and former minister, S Manjit Singh has intensified the door-to-door campaign in Samba district, following the announcement of the legislative assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The elections have provided an opportunity to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to elect a government of their choice and hold the autocratic regime accountable for misdeeds that led to the suffering of the common masses in the last ten years,” Singh said while addressing a public meeting here in a village in Vijaypur, Samba.
As a part of an ongoing election campaign, the former minister said the people want an elected government that would be powerful enough to initiate developmental works and generate employment opportunities.
“The present government has failed to do the needful for public welfare and the decisions that it took in these years were mostly unilateral and without the consultation of the public representatives,” he said. “All the anti-people policies created a void in the governance due to which the people of both the regions sought the restoration of statehood as well as the holding of elections.”
Manjit said the Apni Party has made its commitment to the people to launch a public welfare scheme, uplift their livelihood and provide them with employment opportunities. “Jammu has suffered badly under the present regime after the downfall in tourism in the tourist destinations across the region and the lack of interest shown by the government. There is poor road connectivity, no effort was made to revive the hotel and transport business in Jammu has sunk the local economy and this situation has compelled youth to migrate to other states in search of a job,” he said.
He said the Apni Party wants to end the discrimination between the regions and wants to develop both regions equally. “We want to protect the resources for the locals of Jammu and will not allow any interference from the non-local contractors. We will fight against the mafia system,” he said.
