Baramulla, Feb 04: Three days after two Polish skiers died in a massive snow avalanche at famous ski resort Gulmarg, another avalanche occurred at Affarwat, Gulmarg on Saturday morning, police said.
Police said that no casualty was reported in the incident as the area has already been declared a red zone and restricted for any movement. A police official from Gulmarg told Rising Kashmir an avalanche hit the Affarwat area at around 11:30 am near the place where an avalanche killed two Polish skiers on February 01.
“Fortunately, there were no reports of loss of life or injury. We have already restricted the area for any sort of skiing,” the police official said. The district administration Baramulla said that tourists visiting Gulmarg are advised to stay clear of the red zone and to follow the guidelines issued by the police.
Earlier the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a warning of high danger in the region, advising people to exercise caution while visiting the area. The IMD has stated that there is a high risk of further avalanches in the region, and has called for a close monitoring of the situation.
Pertinent to mention, On February 01, two Polish skiers were killed while 19 foreign skiers were rescued after an avalanche hit the Affarwat area of Gulmarg.
