Srinagar, July 06: Asiea Naqash, former minister and Additional General Secretary of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday expressed deep concern over the sluggish progress in repairing and blacktopping major roads, both main and interior, in Srinagar City.
She called for swift completion of road construction to alleviate the hardships faced by residents, saying there is a widespread damage and deterioration.
Naqash in a statement said that numerous roads across Srinagar are currently in a dilapidated state, severely impacting vehicular and pedestrian movement. “Potholes and cracks have persisted for several months, causing considerable inconvenience and even vehicle damage. Residents have resorted to filling these gaps with stones and debris, exacerbating the risks,” she said.
“The authorities’ failure to promptly repair these roads is taking a heavy toll on commuters in the summer capital,” Naqash said. She said that commuters, traders, students and residents continue to face immense inconvenience due to the poor condition of the roads and the lackadaisical approach of the authorities.
The PDP leader also criticised the Roads & Buildings (R&B) City division for what she termed a selective approach to road maintenance in Srinagar. She called upon the Lieutenant Governor to personally intervene and address this pressing public issue to ease the suffering of the city’s residents.
Asiea further said that intermittent rains have worsened the situation, which has led to gridlock and further complicated travel within the city due to inadequate drainage systems. (KNS)
