Srinagar, June 29: In a comprehensive security review, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar, along with other top officials, visited various key locations to assess and enhance security arrangements ahead of the annual yatra. The ADGP’s visit aimed to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
At the Base Camp Nunwan, the ADGP interacted with stakeholders involved in yatra management and inspected the Joint Control Room and Baggage X-ray point at Sarbal. He emphasized the need for efficient security measures and observed a police action demonstration while reviewing operational procedures. To improve coordination and communication, the ADGP directed officers to conduct joint briefings in the morning and de-briefings in the evening on a daily basis.
Continuing the inspection, the ADGP visited transit yatra camps at Walnut Factory Qazigund, FCI Mirbazar Kulgam, and Transit Yatra Camp Pantha Chowk. At each location, the ADGP received briefings from local police and CRPF officials regarding the security arrangements in place.
The SSP Anantnag and Kulgam were specifically instructed to intensify surveillance measures on terrorists and their associates. The SSP Kulgam was further directed to conduct anti-terrorist operations in hotspots along the yatra route and National Highway (NHW). These directives aim to enhance security and counter-terrorism efforts, considering the yatra route and NHW as potential targets for terrorist activities.
Additionally, all officers of J&K Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and the Army were instructed to strictly follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for drone operations. The ADGP highlighted the importance of timely communication with the established Drone Management Centre (DMC) to neutralize any potential drone threats.
During his visit to the transit camp at Pantha Chowk, the ADGP reviewed the security arrangements alongside SSP Srinagar Rakesh Balwal. He emphasized the significance of preparedness, calling for regular testing and updating of contingency plans to ensure their effectiveness. The ADGP expressed appreciation for the efforts of the security personnel in maintaining a secure environment.
With these security measures and intensified vigilance along the yatra route and NHW, the authorities aim to provide a safe and secure environment for devotees participating in the annual yatra. The ADGP’s visit and directives signify the commitment to enhance security and counter-terrorism operations in the region, mitigating potential threats and ensuring a successful pilgrimage.
