Srinagar, Nov 23: In a bid to undertake crucial repair and construction activities along 270 Kilometer  Jammu-Srinagar national highway, authorities have announced the temporary closure of the route on 24th and 25th November. The decision, made in the interest of the safety of travelers, will facilitate necessary construction work aimed at enhancing the overall infrastructure of the highway, officials said.
A spokesperson from the Traffic department on Thursday, confirming the suspension of traffic on the specified dates. The directive for the closure was issued by the District Magistrate of Ramban through order no. ADMR/1508-18 dated 22-11-2023.
The primary focus of the construction work is the launch of girders at Nashri viaduct-1, spanning the Nasful to Lucky Dhaba stretch. Additionally, the installation of Jet fans at Perrah and Tunnel T5 is slated to take place during this period.
“To ensure the safety of the general populace, travelers, and drivers, NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) has been directed to carry out these essential activities,” the spokesperson said.
As a result, traffic will be temporarily suspended between Nashri and NAVYUG Tunnel on 24th November, from 0000hrs to 0400hrs, and on 25th November, from 0000hrs to 0400hrs. The closure is scheduled to occur during the intervening nights of 23/24 and 24/25, respectively.:
Motorists and commuters are urged to plan their journeys accordingly, taking into account the temporary closure and the specified timings. The administration assures that these preventive measures are crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of all those utilizing the Jammu-Srinagar highway during the stipulated period. Further updates and advisories will be provided as the repair work progresses,” he said.
Jammu-Srinagar highway is the lifeline of essential supplies to the landlocked Valley. All essential supplies including food grains, medicines, petroleum products, mutton and poultry products are brought into the Valley through this strategic highway.
