Srinagar, Dec 24: The Directorate of Tourism Kashmir orchestrated a joyous event at the historic Saint Mary’s Church in Gulmarg, marking the commencement of the festive season.

The Christian community, led by Father Eric and Father Venoo, congregated at the church for a prayer ceremony, invoking blessings for the well-being of the valley’s inhabitants and a tranquil year ahead.

A tourism official at Gulmarg told Rising Kashmir, expressed pride in hosting such an event in Gulmarg, highlighting their commitment to fostering inclusivity and celebrating the diversity of the valley.

“The department has a tradition of organizing Christmas events in Gulmarg, and this year was no exception.”

Preparations for New Year celebrations are also underway, with major tourist destinations like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg witnessing a surge in bookings. Highlighting the significance of the occasion, the official stated that members of the Christian community, alongside other visitors, gathered at the church to offer prayers in accordance with their religious traditions.

Following the prayers, a jubilant atmosphere prevailed as the community engaged in a ceremonial cake cutting within the church premises.

The official underscored the unique way in which diversity is celebrated in Gulmarg, where such events have become integral to the local culture. Responding to inquiries, the officer revealed that the winter tourist destinations, including Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg, are experiencing a remarkable influx of visitors, with accommodations fully booked—a testament to the valley’s popularity as a sought-after destination during the winter season.

This celebration not only symbolizes unity among communities but also underscores the vibrant tapestry of cultural coexistence in the picturesque landscapes of Kashmir, the officer stated.
