Srinagar, Dec 24: To assess the situation following the killing of three civilians in Poonch, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Law and Order, Vijay Kumar on Sunday visited Poonch and reviewed the prevailing law and order situation in the region.
A senior police officer said that during the meeting ADGP assured the representative of all communities that impartial investigation would be conducted in the civilian killing incident.
Accompanied by Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone,DIG Rajouri Poonch range, DC and SSP Poonch and other officers, ADGP Kumar held an extensive meeting with top police officers in the district.
“The objective was to gain insights into the circumstances surrounding the recent civilian killings and strategize on effective measures to maintain peace and security in the area.
A senior police officer said that during the meeting ADGP assured the representative of all communities that impartial investigation would be conducted in the said incident. Beside appropriate anti terrorist measures would be taken to neutralise foreign terrorists,” he said.
The official said that ADGP Kumar actively engaged with key stakeholders, including the Chairman of the District Development Council (DDC), DDC members, and other respected individuals from the community.
“This interaction provided an opportunity to garner diverse perspectives on the prevailing situation and collaborate on potential solutions,” he said.
The meeting underscored the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensuring a thorough and impartial investigation into the tragic deaths of the three civilians. The army, in a supportive stance, has pledged full cooperation in the ongoing probe.
The officer said ADGP’s visit also serves as a reassurance to the local community, emphasizing the government’s dedication to maintaining peace and security in the region. As the investigation progresses, authorities are keen on fostering transparency and accountability to address concerns and build public trust, he said.
Pertinent to mention here, on Saturday, three dead bodies of civilians were found while the locals alleged they were killed in Army custody. Following the allegations the Army ordered a thorough internal investigation into the deaths of three civilians in Poonch.
They said it stands committed to extending “full support and cooperation” in the conduct of the investigation.
