Srinagar, Oct 08: As a precautionary measure ahead of President Draupadi Murmu’s maiden visit to Srinagar on October 11, authorities have ramped up security in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley, according to official reports. A senior police official informed Rising Kashmir that security has been reinforced across Srinagar and the valley in anticipation of the President of India’s arrival on Wednesday.
“We have deployed additional police and paramilitary forces at crucial locations. In addition to this, there is an extensive CCTV surveillance network in operation, along with checkpoints and frisking points, all aimed at addressing security concerns,” the official stated.
The officer said nakas, checking points will continue to operate along the major highway in Valley as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.
In Srinagar, Police and paramilitary forces have set up barricades at many places and other major towns for carrying out searches of vehicles.
“Random frisking of cars and motorcycles is being carried out to thwart any subversive plans of the terrorists,” the police officer said.
As part of security measures for the President’s visit, three tier security cover had been deployed around University of Kashmir where President Murmu will attend 20th convocation on October 11, where she will be chief guest.
During her first visit to Kashmir, the President is scheduled to address 20th convocation at Kashmir University, besides honouring the meritorious students from 2020 onwards.
More than 400 students will receive gold medals and M.Phil and PhD degrees during the event. After the convocation, there are plans for a light and sound show by the Dal Lake in her honour in the evening.
The convocation would also be attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Earlier, on September 30, Kashmir University issued a notification urging all students to register for the 20th Annual Convocation scheduled for October 11, 2023, at the Convocation Complex, Main Campus, University of Kashmir, Hazratbal, Srinagar. The notice confirmed that President of India, Draupadi Murmu, will serve as the chief guest and deliver the convocation address.
