Srinagar, Dec 01: JK Rural Livelihoods Mission’s (JKRLM) Umeed scheme has emerged as a beacon of hope, illuminating the lives of approximately 6.43 lakh women in its impactful 9-year journey.
The initiative’s focus on rural women from impoverished backgrounds has resulted in significant strides towards positive change.
The Umeed scheme, now in its 9th year, has established 86,475 self-help groups, functioning as catalysts for community development. The mission’s multifaceted approach, emphasizing livelihood promotion, capacity building, and women’s enterprise planning, is creating a transformative pathway towards a brighter future for communities spanning various districts.
An official from the department said that, the mission has witnessed the formation of 86,418 self-help groups, 6,396 village organizations, and 528 cluster-level federations. This proliferation of grassroots organizations is contributing to a wave of positive change, amplifying the impact of the Umeed scheme and fostering a sense of community ownership and empowerment.
A pivotal component of this initiative is the financial support extended to self-help groups. A remarkable 65,811 groups have received a revolving fund of Rs. 15,000 each, providing them with the means to invest in sustainable livelihoods. Additionally, 54,205 groups have been granted CIF (Community Investment Fund) of Rs. 40,000 each, further enhancing their capacity for impactful community development projects.
Highlighting the success of the initiative, an official from the Department emphasized that districts Baramulla, Jammu, Anantnag, and Kupwara achieved the highest turnout in the current year. This achievement serves as a testament to the tangible impact of the Umeed scheme, turning it into a symbol of hope for communities actively striving for empowerment and transformation.
The JK Rural Livelihoods Mission’s unwavering commitment to empowering women and fostering community development is evident in these remarkable achievements. The ongoing efforts of the mission promise to continue shaping a more inclusive and empowered society, where the ripple effects of positive change extend far beyond the boundaries of individual self-help groups to uplift entire communities.
