Jammu, Jan 23: Senior National Conference (NC) leader and additional general secretary, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra on Thursday urged Lamberdars and village Chowkidars to play an active role in fostering communal harmony by unleashing machinations comical to brotherhood and peace.
Speaking at a conference of Lamberdars and Chowkidars at village Mana, Suchetgarh Assembly Constituency, Sadhotra highlighted the importance of grassroots workers in promoting unity and maintaining peace in society, saying they enjoy mass contact in their areas.
“Lamberdars and Chowkidars are a bridge between the government and the common people,” he said.
The NC leader called for collective efforts to counter the dangerous trend of intolerance and hate that is threatening the social fabric of the nation. “Our country is confronted with a serious challenge of division and hatred, which must be met with unity and peace. Lamberdars and village Chowkidars, being conscious keepers at the grassroots level, have a crucial responsibility to engage with every section of society and ensure that harmony prevails,” he said.
The former minister urged these community representatives to reach out to the last person in the social hierarchy and work towards creating an inclusive and harmonious society. He acknowledged the vital role grassroots workers play in society and assured them that their concerns are being prioritized by the National Conference.
“The Omar Abdullah government recognises the significance of grassroots-level workers and remains committed to their welfare. We will take up their issues with the concerned authorities to ensure that their grievances are redressed promptly,” he added.
The National Conference leaders collectively expressed their gratitude for the unwavering commitment of grassroots workers and pledged to continue supporting them in their mission to strengthen society, the statement said, adding that they reaffirmed the party’s resolve to work towards a more unified, progressive, and inclusive Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, Ayoub Malik and Pardeep Bali, Secretaries of Jammu Province National Conference reiterated that prosperous villages are the foundation of a progressive state and nation. They said villages are the backbone of our development by effectively implementing welfare schemes at the grassroots level.
Highlighting the need for gender equality, provincial president of the women wing of National Conference, Satwant Dogra emphasised the party’s commitment to women’s empowerment. “The present government is determined to provide women with adequate representation in decision-making processes. Empowering women is not only vital for the progress of families but also for society as a whole,” she said. Women will be encouraged by the National Conference to participate actively in every aspect of governance and community building,” she said.
