Srinagar, Dec 05: At least 78 Urban Local Bodies (Municipal Councils and Municipal Committees) are being covered under the mega public outreach program ‘My Town My Pride’ launched by Jammu and Kashmir administration from 28th November till 6th December.
During the Shehri Jan Abhiyan (“My Town My Pride), the officers, officials, and employees of various departments are organizing various events and activities across Jammu and Kashmir.
In Kashmir, the program is being organized in all 10 districts including Baramulla, Srinagar, Kulgam, Pulwama, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Shopian, Kupwara, Budgam, and Bandipora. Various activities are being carried out to reach a wider public audience and aware people about various schemes and activities..
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, PK Pole told Rising Kashmir that as a part of the public outreach initiative, the administration is reaching people in towns to deliver services at doorsteps to the urban population”.
“We have three main objectives, public outreach in towns, strengthening grassroots democracy, and service delivery at doorsteps,” he said.
Pole said the program is underway in 40 Municipal Committees, Municipal Councils, and in one Municipal Corporation; ‘My Town My Pride’ is underway in the Valley.
“Under Jan Abhiyan, not only Urban Development but around 20-25 departments working in Urban Development areas are providing information about their work to the people and getting feedback from the people,” he said.
Police said visiting officers are discussing various issues pertaining to the development of towns with a public representatives.
“They are also sensitising the participants about measures taken by the government to fulfil the developmental requirements of the town under different sectors,” he said.
Pole said during the program visiting officers will also chase deliverables like dissemination of information regarding Jan Bhagidari, issuance of land passbooks; 100% saturation of Golden Cards etc, and marketing awareness programs, banks and other line departments.
He said that during the 2nd phase of ‘My Town, My Pride’ discussions and on spot redressal related to developmental issues will be held across the town.
“Grievances related to the public will be discussed wherein three visiting officers from various departments will be deputed to check the status of developmental works,” Div Com said.
He said that during the program, the administration will make sure to deliver public services at doorsteps, build developmental initiatives on the feedback, cooperation, and participation from people and strengthen strong and vibrant local self-governance.
Div Com said people’s support and coordination is vital to make this program successful. So far we have received a good response from the people, he said.
He said “My Town My Pride” is an initiative to strengthen Urban Local Self-Governance and to serve the people with responsive, accountable, and participatory governance.
Pole asked all the concerned officers to work in tandem and coordination so that people get benefit from the new initiative of the government.
