Srinagar, Dec 05: Kashmir continues to be in sub-zero night temperatures with Srinagar recording coldest night of the season so far at minus 3.4 degrees Celsius on Monday night. The met officials revealed that health resort Pahalgam in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 4.4 degrees Celsius.
The sub-zero temperatures for the last two weeks have been leading to the freezing of water bodies including parts of Dal Lake and water supply lines. The Meteorological Department has predicted the cold wave and dry weather was likely to continue till the 9th of December.
Meanwhile, the ski-resort Gulmarg in Baramulla continued to witness freezing temperatures and recorded a low of minus 3.2 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag town registered a low of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius. Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded minus 2.7 degrees Celsius.
The meteorological department has forecast dry and hazy weather till December 8.
Director MeT Kashmir, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that they were expecting a two-day wet spell in Kashmir from 9th to 10th December.
“Starting from 9th December the weather will remain cloudy with the possibility of light to moderate rain, snowfall over middle and higher reaches of J&K,” he said.
Meanwhile, the 270-kilometer Srinagar-Jammu National Highway will remain open for 2-way traffic from both sides on Tuesday.
As per the traffic advisory, there will be two-way traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu highway for Tuesday, “Subject to fair weather better road condition, LMVs (Passenger) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic,” it said.
Similarly on Mughal road, LMVs from both sides and HMVs (upto twelve tyres) from Srinagar towards Poonch shall be allowed on Mughal road. LMVs from Behramgalla 0800 hrs upto 1500 hrs., from Herpora 0800 hrs upto 1600 hrs & HMVs from Herpora 0900 hrs. upto 1500 hrs, the advisory said.
On the Srinagar-Leh highway, the vehicular movement shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Kargil, the official said adding that it will be followed by HMVs. No vehicle will be allowed after cut-off timings, it said.
