Srinagar, Mar 3: The Election Commissions of Madhya Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support the upcoming urban body elections in J&K.
An official told Rising Kashmir that under this agreement, Madhya Pradesh will provide electronic voting machines and training to polling staff in the Jammu and Kashmir.
The MoU was signed at the 31st National Conference of State Election Commissioners, which is currently being held at Pench National Park in Seoni district. Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission Secretary Abhishek Singh and Jammu and Kashmir State Election Commission Secretary Sushil Kumar signed the agreement in the presence of MP State Election Commissioner Manoj Srivastava.
The official said that as part of the agreement, MPSEC will supply 7,000 EVMs and other essential equipment to J&K for the elections.
The official also said that training will be provided to polling staff to ensure smooth conduct of the polls.
Efforts will be made to introduce innovations from Madhya Pradesh into the election process in Jammu and Kashmir, the official said, adding that one such initiative is the concept of paperless booths, which will be implemented on a pilot basis in select locations in J&K.
During the conference, election commissioners from different states also observed the paperless booth model used in Madhya Pradesh.
The collaboration will enhance the electoral process in J&K and improve efficiency in conducting urban body elections, the official added.
