Jammu, Jan 06: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) – Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) marked its “77th Foundation Day” on Friday at BIS Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office in Bari Brahmana. Tilak Raj, Director and Head of BIS Jammu Kashmir Branch, inaugurated the event, and highlighted the legacy of commitment, excellence, and progress in shaping the standards defining the nation’s product and service quality.
In his welcome speech, Tilak Raj highlighted BIS’s pivotal role in ensuring the reliability and safety of products that impact millions of lives. He urged a renewed commitment to excellence, upholding BIS’s principles of transparency, inclusivity, and the pursuit of perfection.
The program commenced with the Manak Geet of BIS and student performances, including Classical Dance and Nukkad Natak. Hitesh Yadav, Assistant Director, BIS, acknowledged the dedication of individuals contributing to BIS’s success and emphasized BIS’s critical role in adapting to a rapidly evolving world, setting robust standards for quality and reliability.
Mehak Rasool, a resource person, delivered a presentation on BIS activities in the Kashmir Valley and its initiative to organize Gram Panchayats in J&K.
The event saw over 175 participants, including students, manufacturers (BIS licensees), mentors, principals of standard club institutes, and winners of BIS-organized National/Regional Level Quiz competitions. Prizes and momentous were awarded to 36 students, and BIS Standard Club schools were honored with Sports Kits.
A spot poster-making competition was organized, with KV Sunderbani, KV Sujawan, KV Samba, and Government Girls Senior Secondary School Sujanpur, Pathankot winning the prizes. BIS also felicitated 91 manufacturers (BIS Licensees) for their commitment to quality, producing products with no failures in the last three years of BIS licensee operations.
Niraj Kumar Mishra, Assistant Director, BIS, conveyed gratitude, emphasizing the event’s aim to create awareness among stakeholders on their roles in realizing the quality established by BIS in its 77-year journey.
