Srinagar, Feb 14: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Directorate of Jammu and Kashmir has received approval from the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, to add approximately 13,000 new vacancies for cadets. This comes as an expansion initiative to bolster the existing strength of 27,870 cadets in the region, officials said.
As per the order issued by The Chief Education officers (All) Jammu Division reads that Directorate has specifically earmarked around 7,000 vacancies for Jammu division, with inclusion of both boys and girls units across government and private schools. The new NCC units/wings will encompass various wings such as Air, Army, and Naval for comprehensive development, it said.
Order stated that Chief Education Officers of Jammu Division urged to promptly disseminate this information within their respective districts. Additionally, they are instructed to issue necessary guidelines to all Principals and Headmasters of Higher Secondary and High Schools, both government and private, within the Jammu Division.
“Interested schools are encouraged to approach the concerned NCC Group Headquarters or NCC Directorate J&K, located on Canal Road, Jammu. The initiative aims to make NCC more accessible to the youth in their schools and areas by fulfilling all necessary NCC codal formalities and norms,” it said.
The order further said that MOD has approved new raising of NCC units in UTS of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh
“It is intimated that new raising of three mixed Army NCC units each at Udhampur, Kupwara and Kargil and one NCC Air Force (Flying) Squadron at Udhampur have been approved by MoD, ” the order said.
This will translate to an increase of nearly 13000 NCC vacancies in addition to existing strength of 27670 cadets under JKAL Directorate New Raising of the above said units are under process
On 8th Feb, Défense Minister Rajnath Singh approved a proposal to raise four more National Cadet Corps (NCC) Units in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The approval includes one Mixed (Boys & Girls) Army Battalion each at Udhampur (J&K), Kupwara (J&K) and Kargil (Ladakh), and one Air Squadron at Udhampur (J&K).
In addition to the existing 27,870 cadets, the strength in J&K and Ladakh will increase by 12,860, which is a 46.1% rise.
Currently, the Directorate has two Group Headquarters, with a total of 10 NCC Units, covering all the three geographical regions. The expansion will boost the morale of the youth in the region, who will contribute significantly to nation building.
