Kulgam, Dec 19: The Municipal Council (MC) Kulgam has launched a tricycle service to encourage the segregation of waste by town dwellers. The initiative has been taken for door-to-door garbage collection by the administration.
Muneeb Ahmad Zargar, President Municipal Council Kulgam distributed tricycles among the district’s sanitation workers. “The initiative is aimed to collect the segregated garbage from narrow inner links of wards,” he said.
Zargar said the hopper vehicle which collects waste in town doesn't reach the narrow lanes of the town and to tackle that, the MC has pressed in the service of a tricycle that will collect waste at the doorsteps of households.
“24 tricycles will go inside wards and it will help us in keeping the town neat and clean. The waste people usually would throw at the banks of nallahs and other streams will be collected by our tricycles,” Zargar told Rising Kashmir.
Mohammad Irfan, Executive Officer, MC Kulgam, said that 24 tricycles will help the sanitation workers and also benefit in implementing solid waste management.
“Earlier, our sweepers would collect the waste manually. After procurement of tricycles, which have six dust bins fixed for both wet and dry waste, the sanitation workers will collect garbage in a segregated form from the households in bylanes now,” Irfan said.
