Housing for All: Over 10000 families wait for financial assistance in J&K

Jammu, Jan 03: Around 10,790 cases have been lying pending with the J&K Housing Board waiting for necessary approval under central government’s flagship programme Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-Urban) i.e Housing for All.
In Kashmir around 8000 people have applied for financial assistance to construct their house under the central government’s programme, they informed.  
 “Yes, around 8000 cases from Kashmir and around 2790 cases from Jammu have been awaiting approval from the J&K Housing Board for financial assistance under central government’s flagship programme Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-Urban)”, Chairman of the Housing for All Committee, Baldev Singh Billowria told Rising Kashmir.
 “All these cases for financial assistance for construction of houses by the deserving people have been forwarded by both Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC),” Billowria, who is also Deputy Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), further said.
 All these applicants applying for financial assistance are within the limits of JMC and SMC. Pertinently, 75 wards fall within the limits of JMC, while the SMC has 74 wards within its limits to look after their development.
 Under Housing For All, the government provides a financial assistance of Rs 1.67 lakh to the deserving people for constructing their house.
 This financial assistance of Rs 1.67 lakh is provided in four (4) instalments after completion of all formalities and meeting the criteria as laid down by the government under the flagship programme.
The first instalment is provided after filling up of plinth, the second instalment under the financial assistance to the needy and deserving people is provided by the government after raising of walls of the house, the third instalment is provided to the needy after finishing of rooftop (lanter) and the fourth and final instalment is provided after finishing of the house.
 
Meanwhile, the sources informed that the central government has asked the J&K UT administration to reach out to the people and ensure that the benefit of this scheme reaches to each and every deserving person.
“We have asked our corporators to reach out to the deserving people and submit their case before the civic body so that the targeted section reaps the benefit of the central government’s flagship programme,” the Deputy Mayor informed.
