Baramulla, June 22: In a bid to address public grievances and alleviate traffic congestion caused by heavy vehicles, the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gulmarg has issued an order to restrict plying of heavy vehicles on Chandil Wanigam-Druroo Road.

An official order reads that to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and minimize inconvenience to the general public, particularly school-going children, plying of heavy vehicles has been strictly restricted on the Chandil Wanigam-Druroo Road.

The order strictly restricts heavy vehicles such as Tippers, Dumpers, Tractors, and Trucks from plying on the Chandil Wanigam-Druroo road stretch.

Instead, only Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will be permitted to operate between 7:00 am to 10:00 am and 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

“This strategic measure aims to curtail long-lasting traffic jams, which have been a persistent concern for local residents,” the official order reads.

The order issued by SDM Gulmarg further reads that responding to numerous complaints from the public regarding the exasperating traffic situation, the SDM took prompt action to alleviate the issue.

“By implementing these restrictions, the authorities hope to create a more conducive environment for commuting, reducing the time spent in traffic congestion and enhancing road safety,” the order reads.

To ensure the effective execution of the order, the concerned Tehsildar and Station House Officer have been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing its implementation.

The SDM’s decision to introduce traffic restrictions has been hailed as a positive step towards addressing a long-standing issue that has adversely affected the daily lives of local residents.

“This measure will not only enhance the commuting experience for school children but also benefit the wider community by minimizing traffic-related inconveniences and ensuring a safer road environment,” locals said.

Meanwhile the authorities encourage all residents and commuters to adhere to the new regulations.

“The cooperation of the public will be instrumental in achieving the desired outcome of smoother traffic flow and improved road conditions on the Chandil Wanigam-Druroo Road,” officials added.
