Srinagar, Dec 14: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone V. K Birdi on Thursday underscored a zero-tolerance policy towards the escalating narcotic menace, urging stringent action against peddlers to curb drug trafficking and maintain law and order in the region.
Chairing a security review meeting in central Kashmir’s Budgam, IGP Kashmir underscored the paramount importance of revamping the security and crime prevention mechanisms to foster a tranquil society.
He reaffirmed the police department’s unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
The primary objective of the IGP’s visit was to supervise and enhance the security and crime-related mechanisms in the district.
In the course of the discussions, the IGP Birdi strongly advocated a zero-tolerance stance against the narcotics menace, urging stringent actions against drug peddlers.
“This robust approach aimed to address the pressing issue of drug trafficking and maintain law and order within the district,” he said.
IGP Kashmir Birdi stressed for the swift resolution of pending cases, underscoring the critical role of thorough investigations.
Emphasising the imperative to strengthen police-public relations, he called for a public-centric approach and promoted service-oriented policing. These things build trust and bridge the gap between law enforcement and the public, ultimately fostering a safer and more harmonious community, IGP Birdi said.
He also emphasized the necessity of adopting innovative mechanisms to thwart the nefarious intentions of anti-social elements.
IGP Birdi highlighted the importance of synergy among forces, coupled with enhanced public cooperation and vigilant monitoring at various levels, as essential components for achieving successful peacekeeping efforts in the region.
Stressing the significance of people’s cooperation, he emphasized the need to strengthen police-public bonds at the grassroots level by addressing public grievances.
Moreover, IGP Kashmir underscored the need for a robust security grid and urged officers to improve coordination among ground agencies.
“This proactive approach aimed to bolster the anti-terrorist grid, generate specific intelligence, and intensify operations to promote peace and stability within the district,” he added.
The IGP was accompanied by DIG CKR Srinagar, Sujit Kumar, and SSP Budgam, Al-Tahir Geelani, along with other senior police officers from the district during the occasion.
