Srinagar, Jan 09: “The inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel in Sonamarg, Ganderbal is a positive development for Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in efforts to promote tourism. It marks a big step in that direction,” National Conference (NC) State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said on Thursday.
Speaking exclusively to Rising Kashmir, Imran said, “With this tunnel, an all-weather road, which was not possible earlier, is now a reality. This will create numerous opportunities for tourism.”
“Ultimately, the local people will benefit. The National Conference is deeply committed to these developments. In the next five years, our government will focus more on strengthening the infrastructure which had been neglected over the past 10 years due to various reasons,” he said.
A fresh push and flip is needed, the spokesperson added.
Dar said the government is committed to enhancing and augmenting tourism infrastructure to meet the aspirations and demands of the people. “The previous governments, including the state government and the LG administration over the last six years, may not have delivered the level of work that was required,” he said. “But finally, this tunnel has been completed. There are still many other projects.”
Imran said CM Omar Abdullah met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday and that other ministers are engaging with Union Ministers for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The aim is to ensure the people benefit. In a federal system, it is crucial for governments to coordinate, advocate and convey the needs of J&K to the Union Government to avoid delays in projects,” he said. “It is essential for the incumbent government to ensure the timely completion of other projects,” he added.
