Ganderbal, Oct 19: A temporary wooden foot bridge over Nallah Sindh, connecting many villages in the Satruna area of Ganderbal district collapsed last week.
The wooden bridge, originally constructed in 2014, was vital for residents living on the opposite side of the river in Satruna village providing them with crucial access to facilities and services.
However, the foot bridge was reported to have been damaged last week, leaving local villagers grappling with numerous difficulties.
Local residents said that they are facing immense hardships due to the unavailability of the bridge over Nallah Sindh. The collapsed footbridge was a source of immense relief for the people, facilitating their daily activities and essential transportation.
Furthermore, locals highlighted the potential disaster that was narrowly averted. If anyone had been on the bridge when it collapsed, it could have resulted in a major accident.
BDC Chairman Kangan, Mohammad Yusuf Butt said that construction work to restore the bridge would commence soon by Rural DevelopmentDepartment(RDD). He revealed that the original bridge, constructed in 2014, had unpaid dues of Rs. 8 lakh 45 thousand to contractors. The chairman assured the public that a new concrete bridge would replace the collapsed wooden structure, ensuring that the town’s population would not encounter further difficulties.
