Srinagar, May 21: Ahead of G20 Summit, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday said that all arrangements have been completed for the safety and safe passage of G20 delegates and they will ensure peaceful atmosphere in the region, officials said.
A senior police officer told Rising Kashmir that three- tier security has been set up around SKICC and other venues, while there will be no restrictions on public movement. There will be no shutdown in any part of the city, he said.
“We have talked to all stakeholders and they have assured us that they will cooperate in making the event successful. It will be a normal day for Kashmir and there can be some restrictions on some routes leading to the venue but the rest city is open,” the official said.
He said there are some anti-national elements who spread rumours through messaging apps regarding G20 and asked people for shutdown. We have registered a case against some persons and investigation is underway in this regard, the officer said.
“Drones and camera-fitted vehicles and CCTV would be used to monitor the overall situation during the G20 Summit and both human and technical means will be used to ensure incident-free events in the Valley. SOG’s in civvies will be deployed around the vital points to keep an eye on suspicious persons,” he said.
The officer said both Marine Commandos (MORCOS) and CRPF Commandos are alert on the Dal Lake to thwart any untoward attack. All arrangements have been finalized regarding the G20 Summit and they are on alert and want an incident-free event in the Valley.
The 3rd G20 tourism working group meeting will take place from May 22 to 24 at the SKICC on the banks of the famous Dal Lake in Srinagar, and is expected to have a positive impact on the tourism and trade sectors of the region.
Both Jammu and Kashmir police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have intensified patrolling, vehicle checking, and frisking at various flashpoints in Srinagar and other vital highways in the region.
On Friday, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar today said that elaborate security arrangements have been made ahead of G-20. “We have made elaborate security arrangements. A three-tier security cover will remain to ensure incident free events. Guests will come on May 22 and leave on May 25,” he said.
Kumar said that police will put in place anti-drone equipment with the help of NSG and the Army. “Police are fully capable to deal with any threat in water bodies but since Marine Commandos were available, they have been deployed in Dal Lake and other bodies,” he said, adding that police, CRPF and SSB teams will also be deployed in strength to foil any possible threats by terrorists .
