Srinagar, Jan 02: The Wildlife Department has issued a stern warning against illegal hunting of migratory birds in wetlands.
According to the public notice issued by Wildlife Warden Wetlands, “this is to inform the general public that illegal hunting of migratory birds in and around the wetlands is a serious offense under Section 9 of the Wildlife Protection Act. Strict action will be taken against violators under Sections 50 and 51 of the Act.”
Additionally, individuals carrying firearms within a 10-kilometer radius of a Wildlife Sanctuary or National Park are required to register their fire arms with the Department of Wildlife Protection, as mandated by Section 34 of the Wildlife Protection Act.
“It has been observed that many offenders claim ignorance of these regulations. Please note that illegal hunting of migratory birds is punishable by: Imprisonment of up to three years, or fine upto Rupees one lakh, or both penalties, depending on the severity of the offense,” reads the notice.
By virtue of this notice, the public is strongly advised to refrain from engaging in any form of illegal hunting of migratory birds.
“Violators will face strict legal action without exception. The media is requested to widely publicize this notice to ensure maximum awareness among the public about the serious consequences of illegal hunting and the importance of complying with fire arms registration
requirements.”
