Srinagar, Oct 07: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha released the ‘Handbook on Water Supply’, authored by G.S. Jha and Muzamil Rafiqui, at Raj Bhawan today. The book offers an in-depth overview of planning, operation, and maintenance of water supply schemes, and provides steps for effective water management.
During the event, the Lt Governor congratulated the authors for their contribution and praised the comprehensive insights the book provides. He highlighted that the work aligns with the Union Territory’s ongoing efforts to ensure access to clean and reliable water across Jammu and Kashmir, especially in remote and challenging areas. “Water security for all has been one of the primary objectives of the J&K administration,” said the Lt Governor.
In his address, LG Sinha emphasised the progress made over the past four years in improving infrastructure to provide basic services and a livable environment for all. “Our goal is to develop both cities and villages as centers of prosperity that meet the aspirations of the common man. To a large extent, we have succeeded in achieving this,” he stated.
The Lt Governor further stressed the administration’s efforts in fostering equality, saying, “We have worked to eliminate discrimination and injustice, ensuring that every individual has equal opportunities to live a joyful and prosperous life.”
Encouraging the public to support the government’s initiatives, LG Sinha urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to actively contribute to the vision of ‘Har Ghar Nal Se Jal’ and to protect water resources. “It is the responsibility of every citizen to ensure that our ponds, lakes, rivers, and other water bodies remain clean and safeguarded, particularly in the face of climate change,” he added.
He also called upon engineers and officials of the Jal Shakti Department to leverage modern technology for better water management, emphasizing the need for sustainable practices in maintaining water resources.
Lt Governor Sinha also lauded the contributions of G.S. Jha, former Chairperson of the J&K Water Resources Regulatory Authority, for his work in water resource management, flood control, irrigation, and drinking water supply. He commended Jha’s guidance and tools that have benefited the engineering community.
The event saw the attendance of senior officials, including Shaleen Kabra, Additional Chief Secretary of the Jal Shakti Department; Iftikhar Kakroo, Chairman of the JKWRRA; Prof. Barkat Hussain, and the authors along with their families.
