Srinagar, Aug 29: Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai along with Director Extension, Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi is on a tour to Ladakh to take the appraisal of working of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of Ladakh region.
The tour started with the visit of KVK Kargil I and MARES. Vice Chancellor gave the on-spot directions regarding improvements of the work; research and extension work going on in the twin stations. The issues of the employees were raised for which Vice Chancellor gave on spot directions for resolving them.
The team left for tour to Zanskar and on way, had a kisaan interaction and awareness program with Self Help Groups adopted by KVK Kargil. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai in his address said that the basic objective of Self-Help Group is to provide micro finance to group. He said that our goal is to bridge gap between agricultural research and its practical applications on the field.
Vice Chancellor advised Self Help Groups of Zanskar on different aspects of advancement in cultivation of vegetables and fruits which shall serve as an opportunity for taking vegetable and fruit cultivation as an enterprise and said that SKUAST-K shall provide full support to Self Help Groups for their self-sustainability.
Highlighting the sixfold yield of vegetables in some countries named by Chancellor, he impressed upon the farmers to convert vegetable cultivation from subsistence to sustainable enterprise for the benefit of Self-Help Groups.
On the occasion Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension said that University is always available for empowering the farmers and farm women with the latest scientific techniques and practices for increasing productivity. He said that the productivity of fruits and vegetables has increased manifold with the implementation of scientific agricultural practices by the farmers.
