Srinagar, Feb 03: The Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Hazratbal, Srinagar has become the first hospital in J&K to get the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification from the Union Health of Ministry for upholding quality care.
The health facility has become the first health facility in Urban category to receive the certification award for upholding high standards of quality, protecting patient rights, service provision and raising awareness.
Officials said the hospital got the certification following multiple examinations and documentation verifications as part of the NQAS certification assessment by empanelled external assessors deployed from the National Health Systems Resource Centre, a premier Think Tank for Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
Block Medical Officer, Hazratbal, Dr Farah Shafi said that they have been working for the certification over the past nine months to raise the quality standards.
“Hazratbal tops in External Assessment (EA) of UPHCs by obtaining the highest EA score of 93.09 percent among all 20 districts of J&K for the year 2022-2023 for showing exemplary performance in adhering to standard protocols of cleanliness and infection control,” she said.
The BMO said the award will bring more responsibilities on the shoulders of healthcare workers to uphold high standards of quality and improve the services for the people.
She said that the move will improve the skills of staff which will further help to strengthen the patient care services at better standards.
“Whenever we go to any private or a government hospital there is a difference of quality care. The certification aims to make it further grow,” she said.
The certification is a benchmark for the other hospitals of the valley so that they can also work on the same patterns to get the certification.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat has commended the sincere efforts and hard work put forth by the dedicated staff of UPHC Hazratbal.
The DC congratulated BMO, Hazratbal and other Staff members of the UPHC and urged them to work with zeal and dedication and treat patients more compassionately.
The DC also stressed other Health facilities to improvise their ranks and shape the perception of how our hospitals and other health institutions will look. He said that besides, it also creates confidence among patients on the health institutions for treatment.
