Training programs on millet production, environment and agriculture commence at SKUAST-K

Srinagar, Dec 12: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir kick-started two training programs on Tuesday at the Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, Sopore. 
 
The trainings are organised by SKUAST-K’s Division of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture under the sponsorship of the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and the World Bank-ICAR funded National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) for the institutional development of the varsity. 
 
President AAM and Former Head, Agromet, IMD, New Delhi, Dr K K Singh was the chieg guest and former, ADG, Meteorology and Head RMC, New Delhi, Anand Kumar Sharma was the guest of honour at the inaugural function.   
A one-week entrepreneurship development program on “Development of Skill in Millet Production and Consumption Technology: Self-sustainability in Millet Production and Micro-entrepreneurship” is aimed towards fostering food and nutritional self-sufficiency and empowering local communities. Participants will undergo in-depth training in millet production and consumption technology, gaining practical knowledge to enhance their capabilities in this important sector, as we celebrate International Millets Year (IYM) 2023. The program places a strong emphasis on imparting practices that promote self-sustainability in millet production. Participants will learn techniques to reduce external dependencies and enhance the resilience of local communities. 
Another five-day training on ‘Challenges Encountered and Scope in Mitigating the Harmful Effects of Climate Variability on Environment and Agriculture’ will make the participants delve into the pressing issues related to the adverse impacts of climate change on the environment and agriculture. 
The session commenced with the keynote address by Dr KK Singh setting the tone for the day’s discussions and highlighting the urgency of addressing climate challenges. Acclaimed speakers shared their insights on the intricate connection between climate change and its detrimental effects on agriculture and the environment. 
Dr Amal Saxena, Prof & Head, Division of Agronomy stated that the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology remains committed to pioneering initiatives and contributed to the socio-economic development of the region.
