Ganderbal, Mar 15: The sixteenth training programme on Integrated Farming System under prestigious Apex Committee recommended Holistic Development plan was organised on Wednesday under the aegis of Agriculture Production Department, Govt. of J&K. Dr. Shafat Ahmad Banday, SMS Horticulture welcomed all the participants on behalf of the KVK.
During the introductory session, Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Ganderbal briefed the participants about the concept of Integrated Farming System and the need of such a system for enhancing production & making full use of all available resources. He highlighted the importance of IFS for improving nutrition & livelihood security of small & marginal farmers and described how such integrated systems may cushion farmers from the risk of crop failure.
Dr Pervaiz Ahmad Dar, SMS KVK Ganderbal gave a detailed power point presentation about the ‘Adoption & Promotion of Integrated Farming System in UT of J&K’. Dr. Pervaiz deliberated on the various steps of IFS like Farmers Assessment & Human Resource Development, Orientation &Capacity Building and Implementing IFS Intervention. He also discussed the proposed work plan, budget details & guidelines of the project.
The programme was attended by Scientists from the University, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Livestock Development Officer, District Veterinary Officers, VASs, SDAOs, District Sericulture Officer and other technical staff of the line departments of agriculture, horticulture, animal/sheep husbandry, floriculture, sericulture and fisheries, Scientists and supporting staff of the KVK. The session concluded with Interaction and Question Answer Session between the Scientists and in-service personnel. The participants expressed their views regarding the IFS model and raised various queries. The programme ended with formal vote of thanks by Dr. F.A. Ahanger, SMS KVK Ganderbal.
